Debra M. Stemmerman, M.D. was born and raised in North Dakota where she kept busy and warm training horses, figure skating, skiing and ice fishing with her Dad and two brothers (yes, she has heard all the jokes). She graduated from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine. She completed her OB/GYN residency at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in affiliation with the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dr. Stemmerman's interest in women's health involves teaching women to take better care of themselves. She believes her role as a physician is to give her patients enough information to make well-informed decisions about their own health care. After delivering thousands of babies, she still gets a thrill out of watching the excitement and amazement on the faces of the parents and their families as their baby is born.

Dr. Stemmerman and her husband Brian have three young children who keep them very busy at home. They enjoy hiking, camping, skiing and spending time together. In any left over moment she also enjoys gardening, scrapbooking and reading.
